Special Election for 26th District

Here's what you need to know about voting in the 26th Congressional District special election

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Early voting for the April 30th special election in the 26th Congressional District begins Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 28. 

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the special election to fill the 26th Congressional seat after Rep. Brian Higgins resigned and took a job with Shea's Performing Arts Center as President and CEO. 

New York Senator Tim Kennedy (D) is running against West Seneca Town Supervisor Gary Dickson (R) for the seat.  The winner will serve until December 31, 2024. 

All 38 early voting locations in Erie County will be open, including areas not in the current 26th district.   Polls for early voting will be open from 12pm-9pm weekdays and 9am-5pm weekends.  On April 30, poll hours will be 6am-9pm.

Not everyone will get to vote in the special election.  Only those that live in the current 26th District will be allowed to vote.  That includes: the city of Buffalo, city of Tonawanda, the towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Grand Island, Tonawanda, and portions of the town of West Seneca in Erie County.  

In Niagara County, voters who live in cities of Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda and the towns of Cambria, Lewiston, town of Lockport Election Districts 2, 8 & 9, town of Niagara, Pendleton, Porter, Wheatfield and Wilson. Niagara County residents in the 26th district can vote at any early voting site during these times:
